New Ford Crown Vic Police Interceptor -- Announced

I hope to see the panther platform live on.

I hope 10 million dollars falls in my lap as im typing this....

Nope, shucks :alone:

Its going to be the Taurus probably, or something based off the D3 platform like they have discussed before. the panther platform is going to die, their is nothing you can do about it, and nothing ford WANTS to do about it

I don't know why ANY of the auto manufacturers lose sleep over producing a cop car or competing for cop car sales. Total sales are only about 50,000 a year.

CNN said 75,000 and ford claims 45K of those. Not that they are right, just sayin'.

I'll believe it when me ***** turns purple and smells like rainbow sherbet.

Panther platform is dead...which I'm really not that sad about. It is old, and needs serious updates. But it is time tested and bullet proof. I wonder if the Panther is the longest running, highest gross car platform ever made?

Hmmmm.......... We shall see I guess. It's indeed SAD to see the end of this long-running bulletproof platform! Makes me want to try buying one of the very last made; just will be hard to do since private sales of NEW ones no longer are possible...Ebay lurkage may save the day...

You mean "gross" as in profit? I highly doubt it. Not at the federal bid, state bid, and fleet bid prices they were selling most of them for. Cities, counties, state agencies, federal agencies and fleet purchasers (rental cars mostly) were buying them extremely cheap.

The company I currently work for was invited to buy them on a fleet purchase. We could buy as few as we wanted, or as many as we wanted. But the owner has always preferred Chevrolets instead.

BUMMER on the owner always wanting Chevvies....I know the Mid-90s ones were THE BOMB w/ that LTI and all but after that there were just little George Jetson Mobiles! :bigcry:

So what kind of "Fleet Pricing" were these Crown Vics going for? (Below 20K??) Interesting, but sure makes the "Profit Margin" much narrower than many of us may have first thought.

Panther I'm sure is extremely profitable, it's been used since what early 80's?? It's been paid for 10 fold. F- Series pick up truck which has spawned others like the Expedition and I believe the E- Series vans is the most profitable.... Ford anyway. Nissan has the Altima platform, almost every car they make is worked over Altima, new Maxima, Muranos and their Infiniti counterparts like the G sedan and FX.

I didn't post the link to raise all kinds of hackles and such. When Money and Automobile both have stories about the new Ford PI and Ford says stay tuned for a next Quarter announcement, I believe the stories. Just my 2 cents. I don't post BS, just facts and reliable info.

We know ya didn't! :D NO worries; I thought it was a good post; I like keeping up on the latest...Speculation or not! :D Thanks for putting it out there...I for one enjoyed it; I know others did too.

Thanks GordonB for the posts as I had not seen it. Sure hope the design is a winner and they can retain the market share.

Looks like the new caprice ppv will be rear wheel drive,,,lets hope the new ford interceptor stays rwd also

I am told it will be a Taurus. Probably not an EcoBoost, but a NA 3.7L that makes like 300 HP. Probably AWD. Not a chance it will be a Falcon from Australia.

Dearborn, Mich., Nov. 13, 2009 – Ford Motor Company announced today it will produce an all-new purpose-built Police Interceptor specially designed and engineered to replace the Ford Crown Victoria law enforcement vehicle lineup in 2011.

The new vehicle COULD be based upon the Falcon platform.

If Ford would be smart they would keep the Panther platform but re-engineer it. Time will tell and we shall see what they have planned.
