No air through AC vents?

Have a weird question. Noticed yesterday that when I put on my AC it was only blowing through the defrost/floor not the actual vents in the dash? I tried re-selecting (pressing the buttons again) to no avail. Is this something someone else has run across before I explore w/ dealer?

Thanks

If the fan is working, check your vacuum lines.

Had the same problem at 99K. Sure glad that I got the extended warranty! They replaced a module that cost $650.00. My cost the $50.00 deductable.

Just experienced the same problem. Are you also hearing a flapping sound? I had to replace the AC Control head. From Ford is $700 with labor. Part alone is about $600. I found used ones online in the $250 range. I have extended warrantee so only cost me the $100 deductible. This is a common problem.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

Good luck.<o:p></o:p>

On my GM these symptoms were fixed with a new control head. $75 at my local junk yard. It is easy to install yourself. The horizontal trim panel pops straight out away from the inst panel. Then, a couple of bolts and a connector and your fixed.

I have the same problem right now.
The blower will flow through the vents until I accelerate.
Then it gets diverted to the defroster and stays there
until I cycle the EATC off and on again.
Then it happens all over again.

I have an appointment to get it into the dealer for service soon.
I also have the Premium Care warranty.

Have you tried to run a self diagnostics on the EATC Module?

To enter the self-test, press the OFF and FLOOR buttons simultaneously and then press the AUTOMATIC button within two seconds . The display will show a pulse tracer going around the center of the display window. The test may run as long as 30 seconds . Record all DTCs displayed.

I had the same problem with mine it is the vacuum control inside the control unit didnt have extended warranty so I ventured in to fix myself got a unit from bone yard out of crown vic. and just swaped out the vacuum modules took about an hour to figure it out but all is good now been two years.

I was just going to say that...

I took mine out today because I haven't had the time
to get the Marauder to the dealer.
I've had problems with lots of electrical stuff that was caused
by broken solder joints.
So I took my EATC out to see if there was anything I could resolder.
Most of the components are surface mounted so there is nothing to resolder.

There are 4 solenoids mounted inside the top of the unit that control the vacuum.
They are easily taken out with just 2 screws and plug into the circuit board.
In the worst case, you could get another EATC or manual control from a late model Ford
from a junkyard and just switch out the vacuum solenoids.
As long as the vacuum plugs line up and the circuit board plug is wired the same
it should work regardless of which control it comes from.

The part # of my EATC is 3W7H-19C933-AB dated 10252003 (10/25/2003).
These are made ion MEXICO and FORD is raping us for the price.

Could also be the blend door motor if you are getting air to other vents.

OK...
Finally got it to the dealer yesterday.
They had to keep it overnight to order some parts.

The verdict . . .

One of the doors was broken and the heater box was split.
The broken door was binding up the vacuum motors and caused them to fail.
On top of all that, the EATC was getting vacuum to it,
but it was disappearing inside the EATC somewhere
and wasn't thowing a code.

So the following parts were installed under the Premium Care warranty ($100 ded).
6W7Z*18471*DA Air conditioner and heater - Evaporator and heater components - Air chamber assy $233.65 List / ~$171.73 cost
6W7Z*18A318*AA Air conditioner and heater - Evaporator and heater components - Vacuum motor $14.38 List / ~$8.81 cost
6W7Z*18A318*BA Air conditioner and heater - Evaporator and heater components - MOTOR ASY - VACUUM $15.30 List / ~$9.37 cost
3W7Z*19980*AA HVAC - Controls - Dash control unit, all models, w/ac, w/atc (EATC) $618.25 List / ~$454.41 cost

Now it works like a charm... :coolman:

Same problem here. Air comes out of defrost and floor but not vents. Seems pretty random. Capital Ford, Raleigh, NC charges me $86.00 to let me know that EATC Head Unit is at fault. They ask for $744.60 installed. The part alone is $650.00, but it will take a day to get it. It's not a stock part! I try calling all local junk yards. No part in sight. Any help getting an EATC Control? 2003 300A. Tried running the Diag myself (Holding down the OFF and FLOOR and pressing the AUTO button within 2 secs). The air comes on but no diag runs. Awe jeeze, and it's summer too.

Damm I have the same problem. Does anyone have a picture of the 700.00 replacement part or a ford part number.

Fixed mine just this weekend.. As I build and sell custom EATC for the Taurus SHO community I’ve have lot of experience with ford and their EATC. Mine was also doing the defrost/floor thing on start up and would go to def/floor when accelerating. What I did was use a 2001/2002 explorer (forget what year) vacuum unit and replaced the marauder unit.. Works like a champ. the part number of the EATC i used is XL2H-19C933-AB but all you really are looking for is a unit that uses the same plug as the marauder unit. most of the ones i have are older and do not have the same plug. can get pictures and more description if it will help anyone save a bit of cash!

total cost about 30 mins and $20 bucks..

Gang,

Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like this is not a flukeish as I thought...many of you had same/similar problem. It is maddening - only 48k miles on it too and summer...

Unfortunately, my Mercury dealer didn't even come up with all the items you guys did. Just, "we'll need to dig in there, pull the dash apart and see what we've got". Less than inspiring...

Sorry, is EATC the dash push button control unit? A newbie to this AC crap...

Shodude, would appreciate any pixs.

Thanks!
