overheating problem

I agree, I used a short piece of 5/8" hose and the funnel fit in perfect. No tape!

No tape here either. Got a funnel with a slightly larger OD than the crossover tube fill nipple ID. Threaded it in real slowly until it caught and cut threads into the plastic funnel neck. Now I can just spin it in till it stops and then give the funnel a extra 1/4 turn to prevent any seeping.

This method worked much better than when I flushed the coolant on my first MM. First MM I tried 20 different ways and ended up having to bring it to a shop to get get the rest of the air out for me.

Followed the procedure on the Reische site on this MM when I put the motor back in the car, it was 1 time and done. Never over heated or needed burping again. We should cut and paste his instructions then make it a sticky.

Besides all of this talk of burping,
Check the O-ring on the coolant vent screw (the plug)
REPLACE THE O-RING
Maybe buy a new plug from FORD. If the O-ring is leaking, Air will go back in after burping.
Jim
Also, your O-rings on your vent control (EATC) should be ready to go.

Hey thanks guys for the info...I took it to the pepboys in my area yesterday to have it looked at...and they're telling me it could be a blown head gasket!! How would I know if that's the case? I initially thought it may have been the water pump, because the same overheating issue happened when I had my 96' impala. But there was nothing leaking from the car, so pepboys is saying it isn't the water pump...

Lol musclemerc, your right, I don't. I need to learn though...and thats exactly the response the ford dealership gave me when I told them what pepboys said. Hopefully they will find and fix the real problem...they helped me out alot when I needed a rear differential...hopefully they will do the same about this overheating problem...

Stay away from Pepboys shop. They don't know enough about these motors to correctly diagnose problems with them.
Good luck with the repair.

Hey everyone. Got the 'rauder back from the dealership...the problem? A stuck thermostat! No gasket problem...so Ive definetly learned my lesson...no more pepboys for me. And it just so turns out that the svc advisor at the Ford dealership is a Maruader enthusiast, so he cuts BIG deals on all work done on Marauders...if you want the addy of the dealership and the name of the svc advisor, you can PM me. The dealership is located MD. I ended up getting my drive belt changed, thermostat replaced, and a new lighting control module(normally $500...headlights cut out on me suddenly while driving!) all for $400 dollars!

He always tells me to tell anyone I know who has a Marauder or ford for that matter, to come see him, so Im passing the word to you guys.

Could have saved you a bunch of $$$ on the LCM / headlight problem. BTW... eventhough you have a new LCM (I assume) you WILL experience the same problem in the future.

Unfortunately, if you don't turn wrenches, you're not getting the LCM out to ship off to have someone solder in the better relays. For not being mechanical and going to the dealership, I think he got a good honest deal.

A 7mm socket or nut driver and a little twisting & pulling.

Yea, one of my neighbors who also owns a Marauder told me that all he did was buy some kinda chip, then had someone put them in for him. All he spent was $35. So I probably could have saved some $$$...but ah well. He only charged be $100 for everything...so I do think I made out pretty well.

But I'm guessing that the LCM is a common problem, huh? Is there anything that can be done for a more permanent fix...?

Agreed. Last I knew the LCM alone was at least $400 at the dealer. To get the serpentine belt, thermostat, LCM, AND labour for that price is a smokin' deal.

alright, so a couple weeks ago my mm started overheating so i changed the water pump, thermostat and bled the cooling system and then about a week later it started overheating again. The water pump seems to be fine because i filled the system back up and bled it again and when it starts over heating the hoses have plenty of pressure in them. has anyone else had this problem? the fan works fine also. i dont know what else it could be the temp guage never got to the red so i dont think that i would have blown a head gasket or anything. if you have any ideas please let me know. thanks...

My coolant gauge would spike and then drop, so I thought it was the thermostat sticking. Marauder has 67,000 miles on it. I bought a Murray 195 degree thermostat and installed it with new coolant last weekend. Parts guy showed me the computer screen and It was the right part. Installed it and the engine would not stay cool. Burped the system repeatedly but no more air bubbles and still running hot. temp gauge never got to the red but was running very hot. Had to borrowed my wife's car this week. I bought a Stant thermostat and installed it this morning. Marauder runs fine with normal temperatures. The murray thermostat had a stiffer spring then the motorcraft and stant units (in the flow direction).

The Marauder does not have the thermostat in the engine as most cars do, but in the radiator hoses. So, it must be more sensitive to different types of thermostats.

I would recommend Marauder owners be carefull when purchasing a new thermostat. Jim

The stock t-stat is 188deg. and you put in a 195deg. that answer's that one. For a t stat replacement goto Napa and get a TH-109, it comes with the right O ring and is 180deg

Ok. My marauder is overheating. Starting last night going into the Braves game. Did not overheat but ac quit cooling. Then overheated leaving the game. Called for a tow and they said it would be 3:30 am. Got it back to the motel by driving till hot stopping letting it cool and repeating. Has fluid. Is not running rough. It is cool enough today to make a short trip. I thought thermostat. NAPA didn't have one and thought it was a blower on the front of the radiator. Stuck in Atlanta no mechanics working today. Need direction.
