In addition...having the "Valentine 1" detector on board will definitely enhance your ability to avoid citations of the costly kind!!
 
Nice reading. But, I'll go one step further concerning the V1 or any other detector for that matter. Buy the time the Laser goes off, it's to late, unless your getting splatter from the car in front of you, which is unlikely. I installed a K-40 Laser Diffuser to agument my V1. You can go to www.k-40.com if you need to find out what this unit does. Was tagged several time in Ohio with this unit installed, and both it and the V1 went off about the same time. I was running 80 at the time, and was able to slow to about 70 or so buy the time I got to the officer. The K-40 jammed him long enough for me to slow down....
 
Those are all good rules to follow. I personally believe in the rule of tens......do not take more than they are willing to give. It works well for me......no speeding tickets since 1974. Damn.....now I am sure to get one by tomorrow.:shake:
The Valentine One does help to keep me in check too.

By the way.......that infamous day in 1974.......I got two in one day.....go figure. :alone: :confused:

Murader03--- I was reading where you said that the K-40 jammed the radar long enough for you to slow down. I'm considering buying one of these "jammers", but your post has me wondering. Does it only jam the radar for a short time, and then the radar can get you? Do you have to have a radar detector as well as a jammer so that you know there is someone out there with radar, or does the jammer also warn you of radar in the area, as well as jamming it? Is the range of the jammer (both front and back) as great as the range of the radar detector? Thanks for the help. Ross

The beam of light that strikes your car is very narrow and reading the officer gets is instant. Therefore in our opinion NO LASER detector is effective against this type of traffic enforcement.

Beam shape
No, Laser guns do not detect/measure speed through 360 degrees, around a vehicle.
Laser detectors and Laser Jammers will not detect or jam 360 degrees! 360 degree laser detection is just a marketing concept.
The shape of the laser beam is very different from that of radar. First of all it is not a pencil beam, as the operators believe, and many others would try to have you believe. The beam starts from a small point (1 inch dia) at the laser gun and fans out the further it travels from the source. The beam is approximately 12 inches diameter at 100 yards range, 3 ft in diameter at 1000 ft, and increases in width and height the further it travels. (6 ft wide at 2000 ft distance)

Ross..It's not a radar jammer, they are illegal btw. It's a laser jammer only. My V1 works well enough that I haven't gotten hit with a ticket via radar for sometime now. It has picked up radar better than a mile from the officer. The laser jammer is legal, and for lack of a better word, blinds the laser gun long enough for you to slow down. YOU NEED BOTH a rader/laser detector and a laser jammer.

From what I've heard and read all State Troopers cars in Ohio have been issued Laser guns; so be careful out there!

When and IF your laser detector goes off it is already to late to hit the brakes so you can slow down, you're now toast!

With detectors you want Radar mounted up high in the car and the laser jammer down around your license plates front and back!

I don’t have to worry about a ticket cuz I always obey the speed limit. :D :P :burnout:

Last I read there are no federal laws prohibiting jamming police laser guns as laser is controlled by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for eye safety. It is a federal felony, Code of Federal Regulations, CFR 47. part 392, 392.7 U.S. Code, Section 333, 333.4 to jam or arrempt to jam a police RADAR gun. You'll be tested on this later!


The following info shows you don't really need a jammer yet

Count yourself lucky that the speed laser is more expensive and tougher to use than a radar gun. For if police used lidar (Light Detection And Ranging) technology as widely as they now use radar (there are about 100,000 radar units in the U.S. versus perhaps 15,000 lasers), the number of tickets issued each year would likely make a steep spike upward.

There are over two dozen gadgets on the market that claim to foil lasers. They fall into three categories: license plate covers, passive jammers and active jammers. License plate covers are sheets of plastic, some of them clear, some tinted, and mounted over the plate. They're claimed to absorb and attenuate enough of the laser beam to chop target range. We have yet to see one that works.

Yeah, I was on a decent stretch of I-85 in Greenville right before the "Phelem" exit...not sure what exit number was. I was doin about 100-105 in the Marquis it was an up hill and there were no officers in front or behind me. I couldn't see how they could hide off to the side either so I figured what the hell, I'm bored anyways. Well, 105 isn't that much more interesting, but I don't have a detector.

I hear that some folks say they get off with just a warning...are there any standard techniques to 'debating' with an officer, or is it just luck of the draw that you can get off with that? Being 16, they'll just hand me a citation anyways right?
 
Owning a MM and having a good radar detector are absolute requirements. One does not go without the other. A couple of good driving points (I drive 100 miles each day on the Atlanta interstates at 75-80+ mph). 1.) Do not drive in the fast passing lane - your gonna be dead meat in a short time. The police "sweep" the passing lane in their patrols cars to quickly catch speeders. The police also focus on the passing lane with their radar and laser guns far more then the other "lanes". Minimize turn signal use except when safety requires it. (The police love to see speeders especially at night constantly using their turn signals for every single passing movement. They can easily track them for miles before hitting the lights).

Message to "woaface" - your in a high risk bracket of tickets at 16 no matter what speed you are driving. Police do not give warnings to 16 year old drivers, but alot of gray hair might help!
